ICC announces the prize money for the 2025 Champions Trophy

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday revealed the prize money details for the much-anticipated ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, set to take place in Pakistan and the UAE from February 19.

Returning after an eight-year gap, the tournament will feature eight teams competing for a total prize pool of $6.9 million, marking a 53% increase from the 2017 edition. The champions will claim a grand prize of $2.24 million, while the runners-up will receive $1.12 million. The two semi-finalists will each earn $560,000.

Teams will also receive financial rewards based on their performance. Each group-stage win will fetch over $34,000. The teams finishing fifth and sixth will be awarded $350,000 each, while the seventh and eighth-placed teams will take home $140,000. Additionally, all eight participating teams are guaranteed a minimum of $125,000.

This edition is particularly significant as it marks Pakistan’s first time hosting an ICC event since 1996. The tournament will follow a format featuring two groups of four, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semi-finals. The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy will now be held every four years, featuring the world’s top eight ODI teams.

Meanwhile, the ICC Women’s Champions Trophy is set to make its debut in 2027 in a T20 format.

ICC Chair Jay Shah expressed his excitement, stating, “The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 is a milestone event, reviving a tournament that highlights the best of ODI cricket, where every match holds immense significance. The increased prize pool reflects ICC’s commitment to investing in the sport and elevating its global stature.”

“Beyond the financial rewards, this tournament fosters intense competition, captivates fans worldwide, and plays a crucial role in the growth and sustainability of cricket for future generations,” he added.

Notably, defending champions Pakistan will open the tournament against New Zealand in Karachi on February 19, followed by their much-anticipated clash against India in Dubai on February 23.
