PSL 10 remaining matches postponed

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday announced that it is halting the remaining eight fixtures of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10, following directives from Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.

In a statement, the board revealed that Prime Minister Shehbaz recommended postponing the high-profile tournament in light of India’s “reckless aggression” in the region.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) hereby declares the postponement of the remaining eight matches of HBL PSL X,” the statement read.

“The decision was made based on advice from Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, who, considering the reckless escalation by India, believes that national focus and sentiment should remain with the brave Armed Forces of Pakistan, who are steadfastly defending the sovereignty of our dear homeland,” the board added.

The PCB also expressed appreciation for all stakeholders involved and underscored that cricket should momentarily step aside amidst the current geopolitical tensions.

“The PCB deeply values the dedication and cooperation of its partners, franchises, players, broadcasters, sponsors, and organizers, who have worked tirelessly to ensure the league’s success so far. However, while cricket serves as a powerful unifier and a source of joy, it is appropriate to respectfully pause during a time when the nation faces such severe hostility,” the statement continued.

“We at the PCB also remain mindful of the mental well-being of our players, and we respect the concerns expressed by the families of international players, who wish for their loved ones to return home.”

The postponement was announced with just eight matches left in the competition.

After 27 games, Quetta Gladiators have secured a spot in the playoffs, topping the table with six wins, two losses, and one no result from nine matches.

Karachi Kings occupy second place with 10 points, having won five and lost three out of eight games. Defending champions Islamabad United are in third with 10 points from five victories and four defeats in nine matches.

Lahore Qalandars stand fourth with nine points, having won four, lost four, and had one no result. Peshawar Zalmi are in fifth with eight points from four wins in nine games.

Multan Sultans have been knocked out of playoff contention, managing just one win and eight losses across nine matches.
