PSL 11 Team of the Tournament Announced with Babar Azam at the Helm

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board confirmed the official Team of the Tournament for PSL 11, rewarding standout performers from across the competition, with Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam appointed as skipper after a dominant season with the bat and strong leadership throughout the campaign.

The XI features a balanced mix of players, with three representatives each from Peshawar Zalmi and Hyderabad Kingsmen, two from Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United, and one apiece from Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators.

A five-member panel from the broadcast team selected the side, and also picked an Emerging Team to highlight the best young talent from the tournament, which ran from 26 March to 3 May across Lahore and Karachi, comprising 44 matches.

Babar Azam led from the front, finishing as the tournament’s highest run-scorer with 588 runs. Opening the innings, he secured the Hanif Mohammad Cap and matched the record for most runs in a single PSL season, equalling Fakhar Zaman’s 2022 tally. His run included two centuries, scored against Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United.

Peshawar Zalmi’s presence in the XI is strengthened by Kusal Mendis and Sufyan Moqim. Mendis accumulated 550 runs, including four fifties and a century, while also registering eight dismissals as wicketkeeper. His hundred came against Karachi Kings at the National Bank Stadium on 9 April. Meanwhile, Sufyan Moqim starred with the ball, taking 22 wickets at an impressive average of 14.40 and maintaining an economy of 7.20, which earned him both Player of the Tournament and Best Bowler awards.

Hyderabad Kingsmen have three players in the lineup as well. Usman Khan contributed 389 runs, including a century and three fifties. Hassan Khan delivered valuable all-round performances, scoring 139 runs at a strike rate of 195, along with six wickets and sharp fielding. Hunain Shah made a strong impact with the ball, claiming 17 wickets in 10 matches, particularly excelling in the latter stages.

From Lahore Qalandars, Fakhar Zaman and Shaheen Shah Afridi were included after consistent performances. Fakhar scored 401 runs to finish among the top run-getters, while Shaheen picked up 16 wickets with an economy rate of 7.86.

Multan Sultans’ Shan Masood earned his place with 367 runs at an average of 45.87 and an impressive strike rate of 158.18. Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan also featured after contributing 173 runs and taking 17 wickets, securing the Best All-Rounder award. His teammate Richard Gleeson was selected for his effectiveness with the new ball, finishing with 12 wickets at an economy of 7.13.

Quetta Gladiators’ Hasan Nawaz was named as the 12th man after scoring 291 runs during the season.
