England Dominate Pakistan to Complete 3-0 Test Series Clean Sweep

BIRMINGHAM: England wrapped up a 3-0 Test series sweep over Pakistan after Joe Root and Jordan Cox guided the hosts to an eight-wicket victory in the third and final Test at Edgbaston on Saturday.

Chasing only 130 runs for victory, England were briefly in trouble after Mohammad Abbas produced a sensational opening over, removing Ben Duckett and Emilio Gay without scoring. However, the early setback proved to be England’s only real moment of concern.

Root then took charge alongside Cox, with the pair putting together a composed partnership to take the game away from Pakistan. The England captain survived a major scare in the 10th over when he edged Mohammad Ali onto his stumps, only for the delivery to be ruled a no-ball because of an overstep.

Root capitalised on the reprieve, reaching his 69th Test half-century in the 19th over. The milestone also took him past 1,000 Test runs at Edgbaston.

Cox followed his captain to fifty three overs later, reaching the landmark by hitting Saim Ayub through deep midwicket for four. It was another impressive contribution from the young batter, who continued his excellent form in his developing Test career.

The winning runs arrived in the 25th over when Cox punched Mohammad Imran through the covers and completed the required single, sealing England’s eight-wicket triumph.

Root finished unbeaten on 62 from 69 balls, while Cox remained not out on 59 off 76 deliveries as England reached 133 for two.

Abbas was Pakistan’s only successful bowler in the innings, claiming both wickets to fall. The remaining Pakistan bowlers failed to make another breakthrough.

The result completed England’s 3-0 series victory, with the hosts having already secured wins at Headingley and Lord’s. The whitewash marked the first time England had beaten Pakistan 3-0 in a Test series on Pakistani soil.
