Abdul Qadir’s 146 Powers Pakistan U19 to 122-Run Rout of England

GUILDFORD: A stunning 146 from Abdul Qadir, followed by an impressive all-round bowling display, powered Pakistan U19 to a convincing 122-run win over England U19 in the second Youth ODI at Woodbridge Road on Saturday.

After England U19 captain Isaac Mohammed opted to bowl first, Pakistan U19 posted 308 before being bowled out in 49.2 overs. Qadir led the charge with a superb century, while Hamza Zahoor provided a late boost with an aggressive half-century.

Pakistan suffered an early setback when they lost their first wicket at just three runs in the fifth ball of the innings. Coming in at No.3, Qadir responded brilliantly and took control of the innings, remaining at the crease until the 36th over.

The right-hander produced a remarkable 100-ball 146, smashing 11 fours and 12 sixes. He also built valuable partnerships with opener Hayam Khan and Ahmed Hussain, who contributed 37 and 28 respectively.

Qadir’s dismissal triggered a collapse as Pakistan slipped to 244/6 before losing another wicket at the same score in the 36th over, when George Harris dismissed Mohammad Sayyam for a duck.

With Pakistan in danger of falling short of 300, Hamza Zahoor stepped up and launched a counterattack. The wicketkeeper-batter struck 55 from 49 balls, hitting seven fours and two sixes, to push Pakistan beyond the 300-run mark.

Hamza also shared a crucial 64-run stand for the ninth wicket with Abdul Subhan, but England’s Luke Hands ended the Pakistan innings in the final over by removing Subhan for six and Rizwanullah without scoring.

Harris, Hands and Luke Edwards claimed three wickets apiece for England, while Subhaan Ali finished with one wicket.

England’s chase never gathered enough momentum as they were dismissed for 186 in 37.1 overs.

Robbie Bowman offered the strongest resistance for the hosts, smashing 67 from just 43 balls with seven sixes and four fours. Harry Wallace and Leo Selvey-Clinton were the only other England batters to make meaningful contributions, scoring 21 and 19 respectively.

Rizwanullah and Mohammad Sayyam spearheaded Pakistan’s bowling attack with three wickets each, while Niqab Shafiq and Ahmed Hussain took two wickets apiece.

The victory gives Pakistan U19 a commanding 2-0 lead in the four-match series. The third Youth ODI will be played at Wormsley on September 14.
