Pakistan Shaheens squad for England tour announced

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Friday unveiled an 18-player squad for the Pakistan Shaheens’ upcoming multi-format tour of England, which will kick off later this month.

Left-handed middle-order batter Saud Shakeel has been named captain and will be accompanied by three other Test players: Musa Khan, Mir Hamza, and Sajid Khan.

They will be joined by 14 emerging cricketers, 11 of whom are under the age of 25. This group includes the top two run-scorers of the most recent Quaid-e-Azam Trophy season — Azan Awais and Maaz Sadaqat — along with Ali Zaryab, Haider Ali, Mohammad Suleman, Omair Bin Yousuf, and Shamyl Hussain bolstering the batting department.

Rohail Nazir will handle the wicketkeeping responsibilities throughout the tour. The pace attack will feature Mushtaq Ahmed, Shahid Aziz, and Ubaid Shah, while the spin unit will include Faisal Akram, Mehran Mumtaz, and Mubasir Khan, with Sajid Khan leading the spin contingent.

The Shaheens will assemble for a training camp at the Hanif Mohammad High-Performance Centre in Karachi before their departure on July 16. The tour, spanning from July 17 to August 6, will see the final itinerary and match venues confirmed at a later date.
