Pakistan Wheelchair Cricket Team Clinches Series 3–1 After Convincing Win Over Afghanistan
KARACHI: A superb all-round display, highlighted by dazzling half-centuries from Gohar Afridi and Usama Tariq, powered the Pakistan Wheelchair Cricket Team to a commanding nine-wicket victory over Afghanistan in the fourth and final T20 at the UBL Sports Complex, sealing the series 3–1.
Afghanistan, opting to bat first after winning the toss, managed 155 for 8 in their allotted overs. Jaber Safi top-scored with 38 runs, while Zar Alam (23) and Raheemullah (14) added useful contributions. For Pakistan, Muhammad Fayyaz impressed with two wickets, while Ayub and Ahmad Yar picked up one each.
In reply, Pakistan chased down the target in style, reaching 156 for 1 in just 14.4 overs. Gohar Afridi blazed his way to 64 off 41 balls, striking 14 boundaries, and Usama Tariq anchored the innings with an unbeaten 60. Muhammad Fayyaz chipped in with 24 runs, while Mir Akbar claimed the only wicket for Afghanistan.
Awards and Dedications
Muhammad Fayyaz was named Player of the Tournament for his consistent all-round performances, and Gohar Afridi earned the Player of the Match award for his explosive innings.
During the post-match ceremony, Pakistan captain Muhammad Zeeshan dedicated the series win to the Pakistan Armed Forces and the martyrs of the nation.
“This victory belongs to our brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives defending the homeland,” Zeeshan said. “Their courage allows us to live in peace. They stand guard on the front lines, putting the nation before their own families.”
He further remarked that the triumph was not only a milestone for Pakistan but also a boost for wheelchair cricket as a whole, adding that Pakistan had extended its support to help promote the sport in Afghanistan.
Afghanistan’s captain Mansoor Adil, meanwhile, expressed his gratitude and satisfaction with the tour.
“It was an honour to play our first international series in Pakistan,” he said. “Our team played with great enthusiasm, and we’re motivated to do even better in the upcoming Asia Cup.”
Adil also thanked the Pakistan Wheelchair Cricket Council and local organisers for their hospitality, saying, “The warmth and generosity shown to us by the Pakistani people made this tour truly memorable.”
