India outclass Pakistan with ease in Asia Cup 2025 encounter

DUBAI: India cruised to a commanding seven-wicket victory over Pakistan in the sixth fixture of the ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 on Sunday, thanks to a disciplined bowling display and a fiery cameo from Abhishek Sharma at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Set a modest 129-run target, India sealed the chase with ease, reaching 130/3 in 15.5 overs.

Despite losing Shubman Gill early in the second over, Abhishek Sharma.

counterattacked with a whirlwind 31 off just 13 deliveries, smashing four boundaries and two sixes before being dismissed by Saim Ayub in the fourth over. His knock lifted India to 41/2 in 3.4 overs.

Tilak Varma then joined skipper Suryakumar Yadav, and together they stitched a steady 56-run stand for the third wicket. Varma contributed 31 off 31 balls, striking two fours and a six, before Saim once again provided the breakthrough in the 13th over.

From there, it was smooth sailing as Suryakumar guided India home with an unbeaten 47 off 37 balls, decorated with five fours and a six – his personal best against Pakistan in T20Is.

Saim Ayub stood out for Pakistan, claiming all three Indian wickets for 35 runs in his four-over spell.

Earlier, Pakistan’s decision to bat first faltered as they managed only 127/9 in 20 overs despite a fighting effort from Sahibzada Farhan.

The innings began poorly with openers Saim Ayub (0) and Mohammad Haris (3) falling cheaply to Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah, leaving the scoreboard at 6/2 inside two overs. Fakhar Zaman (17) tried to stabilize alongside Farhan, adding 39 for the third wicket, but Axar Patel removed him in the eighth over to trigger a collapse.

Pakistan slipped from 45/2 to 64/6 as the middle order crumbled. Farhan, who anchored the innings with 40 off 44 balls, including a four and three sixes, was eventually dismissed in the 17th over by Kuldeep Yadav.

Shaheen Shah Afridi then provided late fireworks, blasting 33 off just 16 deliveries with four towering sixes. Faheem Ashraf (11) and Sufiyan Muqeem (10) offered small contributions to push Pakistan past 120.

Kuldeep Yadav led India’s bowling effort with 3/18 in four overs, while Bumrah and Axar picked up two wickets each. Hardik Pandya and Varun Chakravarthy chipped in with one apiece.
