Shan Masood To Remain Pakistan’s Test Captain
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi recently met with Test captain Shan Masood and interim red-ball head coach Azhar Mahmood to review preparations for the upcoming two-match home Test series against South Africa.
As per the PCB, Naqvi assured the team management of complete backing and expressed confidence in their plans. “You have my full support for the Test series against South Africa,” he told Masood and Mahmood during the meeting.
The series, which marks the beginning of Pakistan’s campaign in the new ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle, will run from October 12 to 24. The opening Test is scheduled at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium from October 12–16, while the second will be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from October 20–24.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that Pakistan’s squad announcement for the series is expected next week, with a training camp to commence on September 30. The National Cricket Academy’s red-ball camp will conclude on September 26. South Africa’s squad is expected to land in Lahore in the first week of October.
This will be South Africa’s first Test assignment in Pakistan since January 2021, when the hosts completed a 2-0 clean sweep. After the Test matches, both nations will also face off in three T20Is and three ODIs between October 28 and November 8.
