Sarfaraz Confirms Babar Azam Available for Must-Win Sylhet Test

SYLHET: Pakistan red-ball head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed has confirmed that star batter is fit and available for selection ahead of the second and final Test against , scheduled to begin on May 16 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

The former Pakistan captain had missed the opening Test in Mirpur after suffering a knee injury and subsequently underwent rehabilitation to regain match fitness in time for the series decider.

Speaking during the pre-match press conference, Sarfaraz shared updates regarding team preparations, squad combinations and Pakistan’s approach heading into the must-win encounter after their disappointing defeat in the first Test.

“Babar Azam is available for the second Test. We will finalise the playing XI after assessing the conditions at the toss. Weather is not in our control, but whenever we get the opportunity, we will look to play positive cricket and compete with full commitment,” Sarfaraz said.

He admitted the team was disappointed with the result in the opening Test but stressed that the squad remains determined to bounce back strongly in Sylhet.

“The dressing room was disappointed after the first Test, but the players are confident about making a comeback. Criticism is part of the game whenever results do not go your way. Comments from former cricketers or discussions on social media are not our focus right now. Our full attention is on improving our performances in the next match,” he stated.

Sarfaraz also expressed confidence in the senior members of the side and highlighted Babar’s recent form and mindset as encouraging signs for Pakistan.

“Babar looked in excellent touch during the PSL and appears mentally refreshed, which is a positive sign for the team. We are happy to have him back available for selection. I also expect Mohammad Rizwan to continue contributing for Pakistan with both the bat and behind the stumps,” he added.

Bangladesh entered the second Test with momentum after scripting history in Mirpur by defeating Pakistan by 104 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium — their first-ever home Test victory over Pakistan.

Chasing 268 in the fourth innings, Pakistan were bundled out for 163 as fast bowler starred with a match-winning five-wicket haul.
