Bangladesh Create History in Australia With Stunning Nine-Wicket Win

DARWIN: Bangladesh produced a memorable performance in Darwin, defeating Australia by nine wickets in the opening Test of the two-match series at Marrara Stadium on Sunday.

After winning the toss and batting first, Australia were bowled out for 198 in just 53 overs. Steven Smith was their leading scorer with 71 from 109 balls, while Jake Weatherald and Travis Head made 23 and 22 respectively.

Hasan Mahmud was the pick of Bangladesh’s bowlers, claiming 6-55 from 17 overs. Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain picked up two wickets each.

Bangladesh then took complete control with the bat, reaching 426 to establish a massive 228-run advantage. Tanzid Hasan led the way with an impressive 101 from 197 deliveries, while Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 84 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz added a valuable 65.

Josh Hazlewood was Australia’s most successful bowler, taking 6-89, with Mitchell Starc claiming two wickets and Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon taking one apiece.

Australia needed a strong response in their second innings but could only manage 284. Cameron Green fought hard for his century, scoring 104 from 201 balls, while Smith made 44 and Marnus Labuschagne contributed 31.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz completed an outstanding all-round performance by taking 5-66 in 33.1 overs. Hasan Mahmud added three wickets, with Taskin Ahmed and Taijul Islam taking one each.

Set only 57 runs for victory, Bangladesh wasted little time in completing the chase. They reached 58-1 in just 14.2 overs, with Mominul Haque unbeaten on 30 and Shadman Islam scoring 25.

The nine-wicket victory is a landmark moment for Bangladesh cricket, as it represents their first-ever Test win on Australian soil. They now hold a 1-0 advantage heading into the second and final Test of the series.
