India Clinch ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 with Dominant Win over New Zealand

India lifted the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 trophy after defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.

Powered by explosive half-centuries from Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan, India posted a mammoth total before a clinical bowling performance led by Jasprit Bumrah sealed a comfortable victory.

After being put in to bat by New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner, India got off to a blistering start. Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson dismantled the bowling attack with a rapid 98-run opening stand in just seven overs.

Sharma smashed 52 from 21 balls, striking six fours and three sixes before Rachin Ravindra broke the partnership in the eighth over.

Following his dismissal, Ishan Kishan joined Samson and the pair maintained the aggressive tempo. The duo added 105 runs for the second wicket in only 47 deliveries, putting India firmly in control of the contest.

Samson was the standout performer, scoring 89 off 46 balls, including eight sixes and five fours. Kishan also played a destructive knock, making 54 from 25 deliveries with four fours and four sixes.

New Zealand briefly pulled things back in the 16th over when James Neesham dismissed both Samson and Kishan and also removed Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav for a golden duck in the same over.

However, late contributions from Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube ensured India finished strongly. Dube smashed an unbeaten 26 off just eight balls, helping India reach 255/5 in 20 overs.

Neesham was the most successful bowler for New Zealand with three wickets, while Ravindra and Matt Henry picked up one each.

Chasing a daunting 256-run target, New Zealand never really found momentum against a disciplined Indian bowling attack.

Opening batter Tim Seifert fought hard with a quick 52 off 26 balls, hitting five sixes and two fours, but received little support from the rest of the batting lineup.

Captain Mitchell Santner scored 43, while Daryl Mitchell contributed 17, but the remaining batters failed to make an impact as New Zealand were bowled out for 159 in 19 overs.

Jasprit Bumrah produced a match-winning spell, finishing with 4 for 15 in four overs. Axar Patel provided strong support with three wickets, while Varun Chakravarthy, Hardik Pandya and Abhishek Sharma chipped in with one wicket each.

With a commanding performance in both departments, India secured a memorable victory and claimed the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title in front of a jubilant home crowd.
