Pakistan and West Indies May Exclude ODIs from Their Next Series
LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) are currently in talks over the possibility of scrapping the ODI leg from their forthcoming bilateral series, which is scheduled to begin in July.
As per the original itinerary, Pakistan are set to visit the West Indies for a white-ball series comprising three T20 Internationals and three One Day Internationals between July and August this year.
The T20I series is expected to kick off on July 31, with the second and third games slated for August 2 and 3, respectively.
The ODI encounters are planned to take place at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad on August 8, 10, and 12.
However, sources indicate that the two cricket boards are in the early stages of deliberation to potentially replace the ODIs with additional T20Is. The move is aimed at bolstering preparations for key upcoming tournaments—the ACC Men’s Asia Cup (to be contested in the T20 format this year) and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in 2026.
The motivation behind increasing the number of T20Is is to fine-tune team combinations and strategies ahead of these major events, sources added.
In a similar scenario earlier, the PCB and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had initially agreed to replace a three-match ODI series with two T20Is in their bilateral engagement. However, that decision was later reversed, and a three-match T20I series was finalized due to geopolitical tensions at the time.
