Pakistan Squad for Asia Cup 2025 and Tri Series Announced

LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday unveiled a 17-member national squad for the upcoming UAE T20 Tri-Series and the Asia Cup 2025.

The tri-nation event, featuring Pakistan, Afghanistan, and hosts UAE, is scheduled in Sharjah from August 29 to September 7. Immediately after, the Asia Cup 2025 will be staged in Abu Dhabi and Dubai from September 9 to 28.

All-rounder Salman Ali Agha has been retained as captain. The squad includes seasoned campaigners such as Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Haris Rauf, alongside youngsters Saim Ayub, Khushdil Shah, and Hussain Talat.

Other notable selections are Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Jr., and wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris, while the bowling department is bolstered by Abrar Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Hasan Nawaz, Salman Mirza, and Sufiyan Muqeem. Sahibzada Farhan also makes the cut.

At the press conference following the announcement, Pakistan’s white-ball head coach Mike Hesson explained the reasoning behind persisting with fast bowler Salman Mirza.

“We retained Salman Mirza because of his excellent showing in Bangladesh,” Hesson stated.

The 31-year-old pacer topped the wicket-taking charts in the series, finishing with seven scalps in three matches at an impressive economy of 5.21.
