PCB is Considering To Remove Shadab Khan From Vice Captain

Babar Azam is the captain of Pakistan Test, ODI and T20 team while vice-captain of Test team is wicket-keeper Muhammad Rizwan and all-rounder Shadab Khan is playing the role of Babar Azam’s deputy in ODI and T20.

There are reports that the Pakistan Cricket Board is considering removing Shadab Khan from the post.

24-year-old Shadab Khan, who led Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League, was made vice-captain in 2020.

In December 2020, Shadab Khan led the national team in three T20 matches in New Zealand in the absence of Babar Azam.

This month, when the national selection committee rested five senior cricketers, including captain Babar Azam, for the three T20I matches against Afghanistan in Sharjah, Shadab Khan assumed leadership duties, but Shadab Khan as captain failed 1-2 in the series.

In January 2023, PCB appointed Test opener Shan Masood as Babar Azam’s deputy for 3 ODIs against New Zealand, in which Shadab Khan could not participate due to injury.

There are now reports that the Cricket Board is keen to remove Shadab Khan from the vice-captaincy position in both the ODI and T20 formats, starting with the ODI and T20 series against New Zealand in April 2023.

On the other hand, the selection committee is interested in replacing Shadab Khan in the one-day series against New Zealand with leag-break bowler Usama Mir who was included in the three reserve players for the series against Afghanistan. Usama also played 3 ODIs against New Zealand in absence of Shadab Khan in January.
