Labuschagne to Lead Hyderabad Kingsmen in PSL 11 Debut Season

KARACHI: Marnus Labuschagne has been named captain of the newly introduced franchise Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen for the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 11, which will take place from March 26 to May 3.

The announcement came via the franchise’s official social media platforms through a creative video, showing a private jet scattering leaflets across Hyderabad with the message confirming Labuschagne as skipper.

Labuschagne had earlier joined the Kingsmen as a direct signing ahead of last month’s draft, though financial details were not disclosed.

The right-handed batter has been a key figure for Australia national cricket team in Test and longer formats since his debut against Pakistan national cricket team in 2018. However, his T20I experience remains limited, with just a single appearance, which also came against Pakistan in 2022.

While he is widely regarded as a top performer in red-ball cricket, his T20 record has been modest. In 59 matches, Labuschagne has scored 1,381 runs at an average of 26.55, including eight half-centuries. On the bowling side, he offers a useful spin option, claiming 40 wickets at an average of 20.05 in the format.

Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen will kick off their PSL 11 journey against Lahore Qalandars in the opening match at Gaddafi Stadium on March 26.

Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen squad:
Saim Ayub, Akif Javed, Maaz Sadaqat, Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Usman Khan, Mohammad Ali, Kusal Perera, Muhammad Irfan Khan, Hassan Khan, Shayan Jahangir, Ottniel Baartman, Hammad Azam, Riley Meredith, Sharjeel Khan, Asif Mehmood, Hunain Shah, Rizwan Mehmood, Saad Ali and Tayyab Arif.
