
Bangladesh Complete Historic 2-0 Whitewash Over Pakistan in Sylhet Test
At the , Bangladesh completed a historic 2-0 Test series whitewash over Pakistan after securing a 78-run victory in the second and final Test on Wednesday.
Chasing a challenging target of 437, Pakistan were bowled out for 358 in 97.2 overs on the fifth day despite fighting knocks from Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha and Shan Masood. Left-arm spinner starred with the ball, finishing with match-winning figures of 6/120.
Pakistan resumed the final morning with Rizwan and Sajid Khan at the crease. Following a brief rain interruption, the pair added valuable runs quickly and stitched together a 54-run partnership to take the visitors past the 350-run mark.
Sajid’s counterattacking innings of 28 from 36 deliveries, including five boundaries, came to an end when Taijul struck once again. Pakistan suffered another setback in the very next over as dismissed Rizwan for a brilliant 94 off 166 balls, an innings decorated with 10 fours.
Taijul eventually sealed the victory by removing Khurram Shahzad for a duck to complete his six-wicket haul.
Earlier on day four, Pakistan began cautiously through Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal before Nahid Rana broke the opening stand by dismissing Fazal for six. then removed Azan for 21, reducing Pakistan to 41/2.
and rebuilt the innings with a steady partnership that carried Pakistan beyond the 100-run mark. However, Bangladesh regained control in the second session as Nahid Rana and Taijul Islam dismissed Babar, Saud Shakeel and Shan in quick succession.
Babar played an aggressive knock of 47 from 52 balls, while Saud Shakeel managed only six. Shan Masood top-scored with a composed 71 off 116 deliveries before falling to Taijul.
Pakistan’s hopes were revived later by Mohammad Rizwan and , who shared an important 134-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Rizwan registered his 14th Test half-century, while Salman contributed a valuable 71 from 102 balls with six fours and a six.
The partnership was finally broken when Taijul dismissed Salman, while Hasan Ali’s duck further pushed Pakistan into trouble at 304/7.
Earlier in the match, Bangladesh recovered brilliantly from 116/6 in the first innings to post 278, thanks mainly to a superb century from . The wicketkeeper batter scored 126 off 159 deliveries, smashing 16 boundaries and two sixes.
Khurram Shahzad led Pakistan’s bowling effort with figures of 4/81, while Mohammad Abbas claimed three wickets. Hasan Ali took two scalps and Sajid Khan picked up one.
Pakistan replied with 232 in their first innings, conceding a 46-run deficit. Babar Azam top-scored with 68, while Sajid Khan added a brisk 38.
Bangladesh then strengthened their position with 390 in the second innings. Veteran batter anchored the innings with a magnificent 137, while Litton Das and Mahmudul Hasan Joy also made important contributions.
Khurram Shahzad again impressed with four wickets, while Sajid Khan claimed three. Hasan Ali and Mohammad Abbas shared the remaining wickets.
