Muhammad Wasim About Not Selecting Fawad Alam

After the announcement of the squad for the 3-Test series against England, the decision to drop Test batsman Fawad Alam is considered to be the most discussed topic in Pakistan cricket circles.

Former national team Test captain Shahid Afridi also expressed his opinion about this and said that the left-handed batsman should have been in the squad.

However, when this question was put to the Chief Selector Muhammad Wasim in Geo News program ‘Score’, he said that Fawad Alam is a fighter, he has shown good performance after returning to the national team after a long time.

He said that although he has scored only one 50 in the recent 3 series, he also showed average performance in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy after which we decided to keep Saud Shakeel in the squad.

Mohammad Wasim further said that we are well aware that the England cricket team is now playing in an aggressive style even in Test cricket and we should remember this.

He agreed that in Test cricket our team needs to improve more in terms of run average and playing faster would be in the interest of our batsmen as the style of the game is changing now.

The chief selector admitted that the Pakistan team usually scored runs at an average of 2 to 2.5 runs in Test innings, whereas now in Test cricket, teams are usually batting at 3 to 3.5 runs.

Mohammad Wasim, who has played 18 Tests and 25 ODIs for Pakistan, further said that the current Test squad against England has been selected keeping in mind that we have to run the scoreboard as well and you need that against England.
