Final Formula To Save The Asia Cup

According to senior sports journalist Salim Khaliq in Express News, the final formula was presented to save the Asia Cup.

Pakistan is scheduled to host the Asia Cup in September this year, but India’s refusal to visit has cast doubt on the competition. The PCB has proposed a “hybrid model” to save the event. Under this, only the Indian team’s matches were played at neutral venues.

The head of the management committee Najam Sethi went to UAE for important meetings in the past few days, where he also discussed with the officials of ICC and Emirates Cricket Board.

On this occasion, he presented more details of the hybrid model. According to the prepared schedule, the other four teams except India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Nepal first came to Pakistan and played 4 matches here and then to be taken to UAE where the other 7 matches and the final will be held.

Pankaj questioned how this would be logistically possible. Even the broadcaster would not feel comfortable carrying crew and equipment across two countries.

It was answered that there will be only one time to go from Pakistan to UAE, there is no issue of going back and forth, similarly if the Indian broadcaster star has a problem in coming to Pakistan, we will do the production and give it to them as we have even produced in PSL with three kits.

When the question of Dubai’s heat was raised, Najam Sethi replied that it was not discussed when the IPL and the Asia Cup were held in the same weather.

The Vice President of the Asian Cricket Council has asked President Jay Shah to discuss Pakistan’s proposals and the proposed schedule and give a reply.

Sources further said that if the insistence on taking the entire event to a neutral venue continues, then Pakistan will not participate. During the Asia Cup with other teams, the PCB will hold a triangular tournament in the country in the same days, for which the talks have already started, but the officials hope that such a situation will not happen.

The new proposals suggest a suitable solution to each problem, the UAE will also use its influence on India, but if it insists on holding the remaining matches in Sri Lanka, then Pakistan will seek compensation including ticket revenue.

Sources said that former captain Arjuna Ranatunga has also filed a case against Sri Lanka Cricket President Shami Silva, he is under a lot of pressure, he wants to strengthen his position by making some money for the board by holding the Asian event in his country.

Broadcaster Star Sports will also not pay the $48 million if Pakistan does not participate in the event, as the contract calls for two India-Pakistan matches, the value of the new contract could be less than half.

It should be remembered that in the last ACC meeting, the Bangladeshi representative had clearly said that there is no question of Asia Cup without Pakistan. Aghanistan also supported Pakistan in the meeting.

It should be remembered that the teams of India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Nepal are to participate in the 6-nation Asia Cup along with the host Pakistan.
